FTA Announcement #8: scholarships, FTA community, new books and tools

1. New FTA materials

The FTA is proud to announce the availability of two new coursebooks, both under a free Copyleft license: "Open Networks" and "Legal aspects of the Information Society".

 "Open Networks" is part of the module "Network Technologies" and was written by Enric Peig Olivé. This coursebook explores the different aspects of open technologies that are at the foundations of modern computer networks. The Internet is built on top of open protocols and open standards. The Free Technology Academy does not only continue after the initial period supported by the EC's Lifelong Learning Programme, we also expand the number of courses available! We hope to keep growing and are working towards a complete International Masters Programme. 1. New course books available!

The Free Technology Academy is proud to announce the online publication of a new set of course books that correspond to the upcoming modules of the FTA programme starting in April: "Web applications development", "Economic aspects of Free Software" and "Software development". Read more»

1. The FTA presents its Scientific Council

The Free Technology Academy is proud to announce the initial members of the Scientific Council. The Council consists of internationally recognised specialists who oversee the FTA's quality procedures. Members are selected from different continents and backgrounds, with leading experts from various universities and respected members within the Free Software and Free Knowledge communities. FTA Announcement #3: The academy opens its doors

1. Available courses

The Free Technology Academy opens its doors to students. The registration process for the first 2 courses has already started. The courses currently open are "The concepts of Free Software and Open Standards" and "The GNU/Linux Operating System". These courses will start on January 25th, 2010. The Free Technology Academy (FTA) is proud to announce the official launch of its website. It's available at http://www.ftacademy.org. There you will find all the information related with the project, including news, next activities, press resources and many more. 2. FTA course programme published

FTA launched at HAR2009

From 13 till 16 August the four yearly, techno-political, security and technology hackers festival was organised, this edition under the title of Hacking At Random, or HAR2009.

2300 people from many countries came together to debate about privacy, security, freedom, autonomy in digital contexts and user control over technology in general. Read more»
